Angélique Kidjo
With five Grammy Awards, sixteen albums, and countless collaborations transcending cultures and languages, Angélique Kidjo is one of the most iconic figures from the African continent. Named among Time Magazine‘s 100 most influential people in the world, the Beninese artist is also celebrated for her strong humanitarian commitment. Kidjo made her Montreux Jazz Festival debut in 1986 with the group Pili Pili, marking her first international festival experience. She has since returned around ten times, participating in projects with Quincy Jones, Santana, and tributes to Nina Simone and Edith Piaf. She also chaired the Festival’s vocal competition jury in 2016.
